This little town is a great place to visit if you are tired of the resort atmosphere, and want a taste of the real Hawaii. Not far from Kapaa you’ll find some quiet beaches in which to relax as you watch the surf.

The currents in this area can be a little unpredictable so if you choose to go swimming. ensure that you pick a good spot; watch for signs that warn about the current and tides.

For some outdoor activities you can rent a bike and ride on some of the local dirt roads, or you may also choose to explore the local countryside on horseback.

Not too far up the coast is Gilligan’s Island, at least where the show was filmed. The location is known as Moloaa Bay, and may be worth a trip to check out, especially if you are an old Gilligan’s Island fan.
